PLEASE HELP and VOLUNTEER
My Place Summer Camp Volunteers This summer, the end of the school year won't mean the end of a stable learning environment for 45 ACP Client students. That's because there's My Place, a 10.5 week summer day camp for rising 1st to 6th graders. Each 11-hour day is packed with instruction, interaction and lively summer fun. Three hours of daily academics help students retain and improve their skills as they explore a variety of themes such as animals, the arts, science, sports, literature, and the community.
Volunteers are needed as: tutors, lunch buddies, swim buddies, and field trip assistants. Have any special talents or skills? Come teach our children! This can include arts and crafts, music, dance, recreational activities, sign language and much more! Lunch Buddies Lunch Buddies provide a mentoring friendship for the children. Each volunteer is assigned a student to be their "buddy". The volunteer comes to school once a week to have lunch with their buddy, talk, play games, or read. At times, opportunities are provided to do activities with the buddy outside of normal school hours.
Tutors Tutors assist students with homework, help them prepare for tests, or help with their reading and/or math skills. Each tutor makes a weekly visit to their assigned student and sees directly the affect their participation has on the child's educational progress.
Snack Providers Snack providers may be individuals or groups who bring hearty, healthy snacks for the children on a regular basis, whether that be once a week or once a month. This is an important function as we often are not sure what quantity of nutrition the child recieves once he/she leaves school.
Birthday Sponsors Birthday Sponsors provide cupcakes, juice boxes and a small gift for a child on his/her birthday. This may be the only birthday celebration this child receives.
Classroom Assistants Classroom Assistants come once a week for a period of two hours (9:00 - 11:00 or 1:00 - 3:00). The volunteer will assist the teacher in facilitating classroom activities. Responsibilities include individual tutoring, leading small group learning activities, art projects, checking papers and other helpful tasks.
Family Enrichment Activity Coordinators Coordinators may be an individual or group who provides family activities such as picnics, roller-skating, special dinners, trips to local attractions and other fun activities.
Friends of A Child's Place This auxiliary group helps with fundraisers to support the work of A Child's Place.
On-Call Volunteers On-call volunteers may assist with special events, represent the agency at special events, or various other unusual needs that may arise throughout the year.
