WHO: A Child’s Place (ACP) and our clients: homeless families with children attending Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS)
WHAT: Holiday Central involves hundreds of volunteers and staff members from A Child’s Place who come together to transform an empty building into a festive space filled with lots of cheer, new gifts and other items! Members of the Charlotte community sponsor client families from A Child’s Place for the holidays and drop the items off at Holiday Central. Holiday Central may only last nine days, but the experience is unforgettable – not only for client families, but for all of the volunteers, sponsors and staff members that work together to make it happen.
WHERE: To protect the privacy of client families, A Child’s Place does not publish the location or times of Holiday Central.
WHEN: Dec. 9-13 and Dec. 16-19
WHY: For most people, the holidays involve putting up festive decorations, unwrapping presents and devouring a traditional feast. Client families of A Child’s Place have a different experience. There is no home to decorate, nowhere to cook and no money to buy presents. Sponsorship of a client family for A Child’s Place involves:
- purchasing grocery store gift cards to ensure client children and their families have food on the table while school is out
- buying items from the client family’s wish list so they can have the same happy holiday memories as everyone else
This year, A Child’s Place fulfilled its holiday sponsorship needs in record-setting time, with all 364 client families – 1,280 individuals – adopted by 198 sponsors before Thanksgiving Day.
