For the second year, A Child’s Place will be the beneficiary of Charlotte’s premier Party with a Purpose on February 27 during the CIAA tournament. The event will be held at BLT Steak in uptown’s Ritz-Carlton. The soiree is being organized by former A Child’s Place Board member Natalie Brown and her husband Rudy along with Ramona Holloway, a current member of the board. All proceeds will be used to further the agency mission of erasing the impact of homelessness on children and their education.
“There are more than 4,000 homeless children in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and most of them look just like the students at the Historically Black Colleges and Universities represented in the tournament,” says Natalie Brown. “92% of the client children are Black.” Holloway adds, “they can be the future of our HBCU’s if we help them now.”
With the beautiful BLT Steak as the venue, guests are encouraged to dress to impress. The doors will open at 10:00 pm. and old school music aimed at a mature, 30-and-up crowd will keep the dance floor hopping until 2:00 am. BLT Steak General Manager Keith Hensel promises elegant signature cocktails and the customary five star service. Hensel says, “we’re honored to help play a role in raising money and awareness for A Child’s Place.”
A Child’s Place Executive Director Susan B. Hansell says, “events like Party with a Purpose make a huge difference in the lives of A Child’s Place children and families experiencing the chaos of a homeless crisis. They bring a deeper understanding to the community of how we can all make a positive difference in others’ lives. A Child’s Place is grateful for the support of the organizers and wonderful sponsors like Kevin and Tina Henry, Tim and Allyson Atwell and the presenting media sponsor, www.QCityMetro.com.“
