The nonprofit A Child’s Place recently posted a list of its school supply needs on its website to assist area residents wanting to donate.
A Child’s Place collects thousands of new school supplies for children in need every year. To make the donation process easier, the nonprofit has posted an online chart indicating the exact number of each item needed, how many have been collected so far and how many are still needed.
Items on the chart include backpacks, notebooks, paper, public school uniforms and more. The group updates the chart daily in order to keep the community up to date.
“Our client children are so excited when they get a new backpack filled with everything they need for school – pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, folders,” Executive Director Annabelle Suddreth said in a news release. “We had one client child that received a SpongeBob backpack, and oh, how his eyes lit up when he saw it! He put that backpack on and could not stop smiling.”
Donations are accepted throughout the year, but are most needed before Aug. 15, when many students will be heading back to school. Donations can be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at A Child’s Place, located in Suite 230 at 601 E. Fifth St. in Charlotte.
