CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is getting $160,000 during the next two years to help the district’s homeless students.
School board members approved a competitive grant at their Tuesday night meeting that is part of the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The nonprofit A Child’s Place estimates that CMS’ homeless population has grown by 25 percent this year to nearly 3,000 children.
CMS will work with A Child’s Place to provide services to students through social workers and student liaisons.
